A Dangerous Plan

After some of Ma's comfort food and healing arts, the group has a discussion about how to get rid of the giant, which is destroying the forest. Being a caring father, Pa disagrees with Owin being in harms way. He is easily persuaded by Dorian, who directs their eyes to the lake on Owin's map.

As I post this, I see that in the first panel, the back of Owin's chair is missing. Going to have to fix that.

Out From the Forest, Into the Farm

In his divination, Otso foresees an imminent disaster that is the giant beast trampling through the woods. It walks right on top of Septimus and his legion, killing most, and maiming Septimus. Climbing from the wreckage, Otso attempts to activate the soldier's magic armor and fly them to safety.

Using Septimus' flying vest, the two float through the woods and happen upon the family farm, where Owin and Dorian have just returned. They carry the wounded inside.

This is how our four main characters come together.

The New Map

This map, drawn by the young man himself, hangs in Owin's bedroom. Beneath it is his collection of precious objects on his dresser and on the post of his bed's headboard. The scale of this map is quite smaller than the Old Map, as it only concerns the woods surrounding Owin's house.

Note: The large white space in the top right corner serves as the title page and credits, yet to be added.

The Old Map

Here is the map of the world in which the naked Mouse Man lives. A sprawling civilization covers one entire continent, and has reached across a vast ocean to begin covering another. But by Owin's era, this map will be considered ancient, and many things will have changed since its making.

An important note: Alec drew this two page spread! It's gorgeous.

Last but Not Least, Otso

Septimus and his legion leave Owin and Dorian behind, and march on into the woods. Their path crosses that of a sleeping monk, Otso.

Septimus demands that the sleepy fellow tell him his future, a service most monks provide. The monk Otso happens to have a very keen ability in divination.

And what's going on with Septimus you ask? Well, being a rich man in charge of a beast capturing expedition has its benefits: magic vest.

O + D

The arrogance of Septimus allows Owin's warning only to be heeded by Dorian. Introductions commence, a friendship begins.

The Camp, Dorian

There also at the camp is Dorian.

Not being interested in Septimus' soliloquy, Dorian mockingly interrupts the man's monologue about his homeland. Unamused, Septimus' curt reply earns a hearty laugh from some of his legion nearby.

The Camp, Septimus

At the camp, we meet some new characters.

The first is Septimus, glaring at some poor creature in a cage. He loathes the beasts he has been assigned to capture, and would seem to rather destroy than confine them. He leads a group of soldiers to help him on this expedition.

A Boy and His Dog

After discovering a giant beast in the forest, Owin and Huath prepare to head into the woods to warn a camp of foreigners. His parents watch him go, hoping he stays safe.

Owin's father is a tinkerer/engineer, educated and practical. His mother is a skilled seamstress, knowledgeable in the arts of healing and herbs. The three of them live on a small farm, in the middle of a forest called the Fencewood.

Owin and Huath

The escaping naked prisoner comes back later, as the story shifts its focus.

Owin, the main protagonist, wakes up in his family's farm house, and walks out to the barn to say good morning to his best friend, Huath, a very large dog.

Aw, they love each other.

The Beginning

Hello there.
This is all about a comic my good friend Alec McGovern and I have been working on for quite some time. We conceived the general idea about five years back, and have been slowly working our way through our first book for the past three years.
As a general introduction, we are avid fans of fiction and comics. Our story is a fantasy adventure epic that follows a young man into adulthood, and the friends he makes and loses along the way in his travels. His name is Owin, and he has a giant pet dog with whom he shares a very special friendship.
This first book is basically an introduction to the lead characters as they meet for the first time, and the world in which they live. We hope to share it with you, possibly get some feedback, and generally get it out there.
Thanks!
